Exceptional Power in a Small Device
Text

MicroStep-MIS' MMR-116 is exceptionally powerful small radar which approaches the performance of the big radars. It is the only small radar capable of detecting precipitation at threshold intensity 0.2 mm/h at a distance of 200 km. This capability allows design of efficient small radar networks which have important advantages compared to the single radar with long range.

Meteorological radar can be installed at airports to assist air traffic controllers to detect precipitation that may be dangerous during landing or taking off. Its integration with early warning systems enables to warn against hazardous natural phenomena such as torrential rains, hail or passing of precipitation fronts. Last but not least, it serves meteorologists for weather forecasting or measurement of precipitation in any given area.

With its dimensions the radar is perfect to cover the areas that cannot be monitored by big meteorological radars. The device is highly sensitive and its unique features enable its easy installation, operation and maintenance. User friendly interface allows an integration with other meteorological systems. The data processing is based on web server architecture and therefore all products are available over HTTP interface and easily accessible to any user using web browser.

Apart from detecting rain and clouds one of the important features of the device is nowcasting. The radar-based nowcasting and aquaplaning have recently been integrated with IMS4 ARWIS system installed at Malta Luqa Airport to provide and generate more precise runway condition assessment. Combined with an aviation perspective it contributes to smoother management of runway maintenance operations and short-term planning.
